About Biology
The Andrews University Biology Department is committed to helping students achieve educational, occupational, and personal excellence. Our department offers a range of biology emphases at the undergraduate and graduate level, preparing students to succeed in postgraduate and professional programs, industry, or the teaching profession. We emphasize the responsible, environmentally sensitive use of global resources and have made it our mission not only to train scientists, teachers, and health professionals, but also to nurture lasting relationships and instill ethical and moral values in our students. We believe that academic excellence need not be sacrificed for a Christian education. This is evidenced by the quality of our graduates, who often go on to excel in some of the highest ranked graduate and professional programs in the nation.
The Biology Department features a faculty of nine full-time professors with PhD degrees, many of whom have received school-wide recognition for their outstanding teaching. Their love for teaching and commitment to students helps explain the high quality academic advising and the close-knit community that exists in the department. Our professors keep students engaged in the process of discovery and creativity both in the classroom and in the research lab. The dual emphasis of instruction and scholarship affords academic opportunities unavailable at most larger schools; for example, students can participate in cutting edge biological research projects at the undergraduate level. This academic rigor couched in an intimate working environment prepares students to succeed in every aspect of life.
